Can you recommend any fun and easy crafts for a 1st or 2nd grade Christmas party?

I am in charge of the craft for a 1st and 2nd grade Christmas party at our elementary school. If anyone can give me some ideas that would be great. I am looking for inexpensive, fun and somewhat easy craft that the parents won’t cringe at when they are brought home. Thanks.

Make some gingerbread dough (or premake the gingerbread men), have the kids decorate them to take home. Have lots of icing in small bowls so they can use food colouring to colour the icing. Little containers with smarties, hard candies, licorice pieces, etc.
You could also buy a gingerbread house kit that the kids can also decorate and then raffle it off for charity.

At a girl scout meeting for 1st 2nd and 3rd graders, we bought some clear christmas tree bulbs and took the top off. Then the kids just squirt a little paint in and swirl the balls around to make cool designs. Its small, they usually turn out really cute… sometimes the kids used too many different colors and it just turned brown… but they never looked bad.

When I was that age, I remember the parents in charge of the party would order little craft packages (they come in dozens) from Oriental Trading. (www.orientialtrading.com) They have all kinds of snow man and santa crafts and stuff like that. It also pretty cheap
